The name of a surf label began as a word an Australian would use for a still pond left beside a river, and this version of it looks less like a corporate logo and more like a name written in the sand. The hand is upright and quick, with a tall, thin B, a dotted i floating above the line and letters that hurry together.
Billabong was founded on the Gold Coast in 1973. The tail of the g is what finishes the signature: it drops, loops and stretches out to the right in a long, thin line, which gives the design most of its width. In between, the strokes vary from hairline to a fat, brush-like press.
It is an unusual choice for a surfwear sticker and the most understated of the Billabong designs here, so it fits the kind of surfaces where a loud logo would look out of place: a longboard rail, a laptop, a guitar case, a van window or a leather notebook. Use the other copy on the opposite side.
