Algeria's flag was adopted in 1962 upon independence from France, following a war (1954–62) that cost well over a million lives. Green stands for Islam, white for peace, and the red crescent and star are widely used Islamic symbols, with the design often attributed to 19th-century resistance leader Emir Abdelkader.
This design keeps the flag close to its traditional rectangular form, with a subtle drape and rounded corners rather than a pennant or badge shape.
Fits perfectly on cars, laptops, water bottles and travel gear.
The Sahara Desert crossing southern Algeria holds some of the highest recorded surface temperatures on Earth, while the northern Tell Atlas mountains see snow most winters.
