The flag on this crest has nine horizontal stripes — five white and four blue — one for each of the nine original departments of Uruguay, with the Sun of May, a face-and-rays sun shared with Argentina, in the white upper corner. The flag was adopted in 1830.

The stripes and sun are set on a bevelled silver shield with a gloss highlight, the style of a sports or club emblem rather than a plain flag. Printed in full colour and cut to the shield outline, it suits a car window, a laptop, a water bottle or a supporter's folder.
