The two figures are drawn large, hands on hips, in costume of an earlier century: she wears a white cap, a brown bodice, a long white apron and a brown skirt, and he wears a red-patterned neckerchief, a brown waistcoat, black breeches, white stockings and a black flat cap.

Behind them rise three narrow houses with stepped gables, one red with green-framed windows, one brick brown and one golden orange, set against a soft blue sky with a seagull. Below, their colours fade into the canal as reflections, and a dark path curls round the lower left.

It is a cultural souvenir for a classroom, a travel diary, an expat's laptop or a heritage group's table, and it is cut to the scene's outline with a thin clear border.
