The flag of Belize took its present form, with red bands added to the old blue banner, on independence day, 21 September 1981, and its look has hardly changed since. This sticker shows it as a piece of cloth rather than a graphic: faint folds drift diagonally across the blue, and the top-right corner flicks upward.
The red bands at the top and bottom are narrow and bright, the blue is a rich navy and the central disc is clean white. Look closely at the arms and you will see two woodcutters in white trousers, a shield divided into sections with tools and a ship, a mahogany tree overhead and a ring of green leaves tied with a brown cord.
Belize is home to Maya ruins such as Caracol and Xunantunich, and the keel-billed toucan is its national bird. If you have travelled there, or you come from the country, this flag works as a small marker of that connection.
It sits well on the lid of a laptop, a camera case, a water bottle, a travel trunk, a surfboard or a car window, and it is a good fit beside other Central American flags if you are collecting a set.
