Banana Republic started in 1978 as a safari-and-travel clothing company with catalogues full of illustrated expedition gear, was bought by Gap in 1983 and grew into the smarter, tailored label it is today. Its wordmark is quietly elegant: the two words set in light serif capitals, the B and the R slightly taller than the rest, with generous spacing between every letter.
That lightness is the thing to plan for. The strokes are thin, so this design looks best at medium sizes on a smooth surface, such as the lid of a laptop, the side of a suitcase, a wardrobe door, a shop-fitting mirror or the glass of a dressing-room door. At very large sizes the thin serifs become delicate to apply, so keep the transfer tape taut and peel it back at a low angle.
It is cut from one colour of vinyl with no background, which suits the understated character of the mark. Choose from 19 colours; black, white, grey and gold all suit it.
