Akrapovič was founded in Ivančna Gorica, Slovenia in 1990 by Igor Akrapovič, and grew rapidly through the 1990s on the strength of its titanium and carbon fibre exhaust construction, at a time when titanium was largely the preserve of factory racing teams. Today Akrapovič supplies exhaust systems to factory Ducati, Honda and Yamaha teams in MotoGP, and the marque is effectively universal among leading World Superbike and Endurance World Championship teams.
