Look at the outline first and then at the letters. The bear is formed entirely out of the words PAPA and BEAR: the P and the A of the first word make the head and the hump, the second word fills the belly and the legs, and the edges of the letters are cut to follow the line of the back, the haunches and the paws. Nothing has been added around them.
That makes it a typographic piece rather than an illustration. The capitals are tightly packed and slightly condensed, with some letters pushed taller to fill the gaps, and in a single colour the whole thing reads as a chunky bear at a distance and as a word up close. It is the most compact of the Papa Bear designs in the range.
It suits Father's Day, a new dad or a dad who just likes his work van to say so: a rear window, a toolbox, a mug or a laptop. The cover shows one bear, and the pack contains two. At 20cm the words are easy to make out.
