The grizzly on the California flag goes back to 1846, when a group of settlers raised a homemade banner with a bear on it during the Bear Flag Revolt, and the animal was named the state animal in 1953. The last wild California grizzly was shot in the early 1920s, which has made it a symbol of something lost as well as something proud.
Here the bear walks in profile to the left, and the name is the bear. The C is turned into the head and ear, and the remaining letters, tall and narrow with their stems running top to bottom, are spaced to form the legs and body, with their tops joined into a smooth back line. The lowercase i's dots sit as rivets along the spine.
It is aimed at anyone from or fond of the state: for a car's rear window, a laptop, a skateboard deck or a surf-van door. Two stickers come in the pack, both walking left. The lettering needs a size of about 15cm to stay readable, and 30cm is a good size for a tailgate.
