Kids' rooms, nursery doors and school classrooms are where owls like these end up, because they are friendly and easy to read. The pair are identical: round, solid black bodies, ear tufts that point out like small horns and two big white eyes with black pupils.

The slanted brow lines above the eyes give them a look of mild concern, as if they are watching someone carefully. Below the eyes sits a small diamond beak, then a chest of overlapping scallops like fish scales or roof tiles, and on each side a pale, tall oval cut-out marks a folded wing. At the base, four-toed feet stand flat.

The shape is almost as wide as it is tall, so each owl fits neatly in a window corner, on a cupboard door or beside a light switch. Place them as a pair, one on each side of a door frame. The scalloped chest is the finest detail, so rub it down through the transfer tape before you peel.
