This design frames Albania's red field and black double-headed eagle inside a rounded shield with a glossy silver-metal border, reading more like a formal badge or crest than a plain flag. The eagle descends from Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg's 15th-century banner, and the flag was adopted with the declaration of independence in Vlorë on 28 November 1912.
Albania became a European Union candidate country in 2014, a status that has only increased interest in the country's national symbols among residents and the diaspora alike.
The shield format is a common way to present a national flag as a badge rather than a flat rectangle, similar in spirit to a sports crest or a heraldic device.
Fits perfectly on cars, laptops, water bottles and travel gear.
