Medieval knights rode under swallowtail pennons, narrow flags with a forked end, and this banner gives the flag of Angola the same shape. It hangs from a thin gold rod with arrowhead tips, and a deep V is cut up into the black lower band, leaving two pointed tails.

The red and black fall in soft folds, and the gold half-cogwheel, machete and star, the emblem adopted at independence in 1975, cross the line between them. Among the hanging banners in this Angola range it sits between the single-point pennants and the three-point banner.
