Alfa Romeo's circular crest combines two heraldic marks: the red cross of Milan on the left and, on the right, the biscione — a crowned serpent shown devouring a human figure, taken from the arms of the Visconti family who once ruled Milan. The badge has appeared on Alfa Romeo cars since the company's early years in the 1910s and remains the marque's core identity mark on both road and racing cars today.
