EFI-S — electronic fuel injection — marked the step up from carburettors on many 16-valve engines through the late 1980s and 1990s, and manufacturers badged it deliberately, since the fuel-injected version usually carried a different power figure and price point to the carburettor-fed model sharing the same 16-valve head.
