The basset hound is a French scent hound bred to follow hare and rabbit at a walking pace, low enough for a hunter on foot to keep up with. The name comes from bas, French for low, and everything about the shape says it: the long body on short bowed legs, the heavy bone, the ears that sweep the ground and the nose that is second only to the bloodhound's.
This decal reduces the dog to that outline. It is a solid single piece of vinyl with no interior detail, the head slightly raised, one ear falling forward of the shoulder, the deep chest nearly touching the ground and the tail up and curved at the tip, the pose of a basset that has just found a scent. The shape stays recognisable from the 10cm preset on a phone or a mug up to 55cm on a rear window.
Two stickers come in each pack as mirror images, so one dog walks left and one walks right. The usual spots are the car's rear window or tailgate, the door of a crate or a kennel, a dog-food bin or the glass of the front door. Nineteen colours are available; white on tinted glass, black on a pale wall or a white fridge. A detailed, patched version of the breed is listed separately.
