Bata began in 1894 in Zlín, in what is now the Czech Republic, when Tomáš Baťa and his siblings set up a shoemaking workshop that grew into one of the first companies to put shoes on an assembly line and sell them in its own shops worldwide. The script logo, with its tall looped B, has been on shop fronts from Prague to Nairobi to Singapore for most of a century, and the company is now run from Lausanne.
This decal is that script cut in one colour: the B with a wide open bowl, the lowercase a-t-a running on from it in a single slanted stroke, a curl breaking off the top of the t, and the heavy, rounded letterforms of a mid-century sign. It is a long strip, cut and weeded as one piece so the spacing stays exactly as drawn.
Two identical stickers come in each pack. It suits a shoe cupboard, a suitcase, a vintage shop window, a retro scooter or a laptop, and at 10cm the script is small enough for a phone. At 30–55cm it fills a car door or a window; custom sizes to 120cm are cut for a shop. Nineteen colours are available; red is the colour most people remember it in, and black or white suit most surfaces.
