Start with what this physically is, because it changes how it looks on the car: cut vinyl, not print. Every part of the letterform that is drawn as an inline — the thin channel running inside the A, the g, the p — is cut away, so the surface underneath shows through as the second colour. On a white panel with black vinyl you get black letters with white pinstripes inside them.

The mark itself dates from Agip, Azienda Generale Italiana Petroli, the Italian state oil company founded in 1926 and later folded into Eni. The square dot over the i is the detail that separates the real logotype from a lookalike typeface.
