The creature is a dog, not a dragon: six legs, a raised curled tail, and a jet of red flame from its mouth. Agip adopted it in 1952 after a public competition, and the reading that stuck is the simplest one — four legs for the wheels and two for the driver, with the flame for the fuel. Italians still call it the cane a sei zampe, the six-legged dog.

What separates this version from the others in the range is that there is no panel behind it. The yellow that normally forms the background has been pulled in tight as a keyline around the animal, so the dog reads as a cut-out shape on whatever colour it is applied to.
