Which Afghanistan map do you actually want — the flag one, or the map one? This is the map one. There are no national colours anywhere on it. Instead the country is rendered in soft greys with a shallow extruded edge along the southern and eastern borders, so it sits on the surface like a cut plate rather than a printed shape.

The reason to choose it is the interior detail. Every provincial boundary is drawn in, dividing the country into its 34 provinces, which is what makes it useful as a reference piece rather than a flag substitute — on a planning board, a study wall, a filing cabinet or a travel journal. The Wakhan Corridor is drawn to its full length in the north-east, and the outline runs unbroken all the way round.
