Stick this on a classroom door for Independence Day or a kitchen cupboard for Crop Over and it reads straight away as party bunting. The Barbados flag hangs from a rod with gold arrow tips, the cloth folds round the black broken trident, and the bottom hem is cut into a zigzag of four sharp sawtooth points, the most decorative of all the banner hems in this range.
It also works as a row: because you get two identical stickers per pack, a pair hung side by side on a shop window or along a shelf edge looks like a strip of festival bunting, and extra packs extend the row. On a smaller scale it fits a notebook cover, a laptop corner or the lid of a lunchbox.
Crop Over, the island's summer harvest festival, ends with Grand Kadooment on the first Monday of August and fills Bridgetown with exactly this kind of flag. The design itself dates from 1966. Printed in full colour on glossy vinyl and cut round the rod and the zigzag with a narrow white border.
