Independence Day on 30 November is when Barbados hangs its banners, along Broad Street in Bridgetown, over school gates and across the stands at Kensington Oval, and this sticker prints one of them in full: a horizontal rod with gold arrowhead tips at both ends, the ultramarine and gold cloth falling in soft vertical folds, the black broken trident in the gold centre band, and a single swallowtail notch cut into the hem.
The vertical format is the point. A normal flag sticker is wider than it is tall; this one hangs, so it fits a door, a window pillar, a fridge side, a locker, a wardrobe or the long edge of a laptop lid. It is one of a family of Barbados hanging banners in this range that differ only in the hem; this is the single swallowtail.
The flag itself dates from 1966, blue for sea and sky, gold for sand, the trident snapped from its shaft to mark the end of colonial rule. Printed in full colour on glossy vinyl and cut round the rod and cloth with a narrow white border. Two identical stickers per pack.
