This is the banner for a door panel, a locker, a fridge side or the tall edge of a laptop lid, anywhere a vertical rectangle fits better than a landscape flag. The Barbados flag hangs straight down from a rod with gold arrow tips, the ultramarine and gold cloth falling in gentle vertical folds, the black broken trident centred in the gold band, and the hem cut dead straight with no notch, point or scallop.
Of all the Barbados hanging banners in this range it is the plainest and the most formal, closest to the banners hung on government buildings in Bridgetown for Independence Day on 30 November. If you want a decorative hem, the swallowtail, zigzag, rounded, tattered and pointed versions sit alongside it.
The flag was designed by art teacher Grantley Prescod for a 1966 competition: blue for the sea and sky, gold for the sand, and the trident broken from its shaft to mark the break with colonial rule. Printed in full colour on glossy vinyl and cut round the rod and cloth with a narrow white border. Two identical stickers per pack.
