This label fits the lid of a rum box, the side of a pepper-sauce carton, the front of a market stall or the top rail of a laptop lid: BEST QUALITY in bold black capitals, with a small waving Barbados flag, ultramarine and gold with the black broken trident, set between the two words so the origin is clear without a word of text.
Barbados exports rum, sugar, pepper sauce and sea-island cotton, and its restaurants, tailors and rum shops use the flag the same way, so the strip format earns its keep on packaging and shop windows alike. It is the widest and lowest of the five Barbados quality labels in this range, the others being a crossed-flags badge, a shield, a square frame and a round stamp.
The flag dates from independence on 30 November 1966; its three-pronged trident stands for government of, for and by the people. Printed in full colour on glossy vinyl and cut round the lettering and flag with a narrow white border. Two identical stickers per pack.
