Where the twin-notch pennant gives three broad points and the swallowtail gives two long tails, this one repeats a small triangle the whole way along the hem. The effect is regular and decorative rather than flag-like, and at a distance it reads as a border pattern — worth knowing, because at smaller sizes the individual teeth start to close up and the edge simply looks textured.

Everything above the hem is the standard design: the vertical tricolour in black, red and green, and the white emblem laid across the middle. The emblem is a mosque shown head-on, with the mihrab arch indicating the direction of Mecca and the minbar pulpit alongside it, encircled by sheaves of wheat, above the date 1298 written in the Solar Hijri calendar. That corresponds to 1919. The flag itself was Afghanistan's national flag between 2004 and 2021.
