This is the one people buy to run in a row. Because the shape is a bunting triangle, several of them side by side along a window, a shelf edge or a stall front read as a string of flags, which none of the other designs in this set do — and since each pack contains two, you are halfway to a run before you start. On its own it works as a simple wedge in a corner or beneath a handle.
The tricolour is compressed into the triangle, so the black hoist band and the green fly band taper away and the red centre carries most of the visible area — which is where the white emblem sits anyway. The emblem is a mosque drawn head-on, with the mihrab arch that marks the direction of Mecca and the minbar pulpit beside it, wreathed in wheat, above the date 1298 in Afghanistan's Solar Hijri calendar. That is 1919, the year the country resumed control of its own foreign affairs. This flag design was in national use from 2004 until 2021.
