Set next to the broad pointed banner, the difference here is proportion. This one is cut narrow and long, and the taper starts higher, so the whole shape reads as a shield hung from a bar rather than a flag with a pointed hem. It is the design to reach for when the space you are filling is tall and thin — a door edge, the upright of a bookcase, the frame beside a windscreen, the spine of a hard case.

The flag carried on it is the black, red and green tricolour used as the national flag from 2004 until 2021. The white emblem sits across the red band: a mosque seen from the front, its mihrab arch marking the direction of Mecca and its minbar pulpit beside it, closed in by sheaves of wheat, over the Solar Hijri date 1298 — 1919 in the Gregorian calendar, the year independence in foreign affairs was regained.
