Look at the pair together and they work like a set of hands. The left paw and the right paw lean towards each other, with the toes at the top and the broad heel pad at the base. Five oval toe pads run in an arc across the top, and a long wide heel pad fills the lower half, all cut clean through the vinyl.

The fur is the other half of the design. It forms a thick, uneven ring of black around the pads, with spikes of hair at the bottom and sides and a row of claw slits across the top. Seen from a distance it reads as a bear paw; closer up, it is rough and tactile rather than neat.

Because they are a mirrored pair they suit a door or a window pane better than a bumper: one paw on each leaf of a double door, or one on each side of a boat locker. At 50cm and up they make a wall of a children's bedroom or a cabin look as if a bear had walked through it.
