Bass Drum of Death started as a one-man project in Oxford, Mississippi, where John Barrett recorded blown-out garage rock on his own before the debut album GB City came out on Fat Possum in 2011. The name is a joke about the drum kit, and the logo makes the same joke: the only graphic element is a solid dot where the O should be, a drum head seen straight on.
The type is deliberately plain, a light condensed sans with slightly uneven baselines, stacked so the mark is almost square. There is no outline or box around it. The decal is cut as one piece of vinyl with the dot and all four words joined on a single sheet of transfer tape, so the spacing goes down exactly as drawn.
Two identical stickers come in each pack. It is the kind of logo that belongs on a guitar case, a pedalboard lid, a laptop, a record crate or the back window of a touring van. At the 10cm preset the lettering is small but readable; 20cm is the laptop size; custom sizes to 120cm are cut for a rehearsal room wall. Nineteen colours are available; black on pale surfaces and white on dark cases are the obvious choices.
